After a flurry of North swells the past few weeks, the forecast has finally swung a bit west, with three good-sized Northwest swells headed towards Hawaii this week. The Waimea Bay buoy forecast (@buoy51201) shows the first swell arriving Tuesday, and building throughout the day before peaking at 4.9 feet at 11.3 seconds (312°).
The second Northwest swell is forecast to arrive on New Year’s Eve, building through Friday (6.6 feet at 13.8 seconds 312°), then tapering off Saturday into Sunday.
The third and largest Northwest swell is forecast to build quickly through Sunday, January 2nd, peaking in the evening at 8.2 feet at 17.4 seconds (310°). The wind forecast looks favorable as well, with light-to-moderate ENE winds through the week. Overall a great way to kick off 2011!
