The IBA World Tour unveils its new contest format at the 2011 IBA Box Pro, with the main event set to run between April 14 – 20. The first day of trials was canceled due to poor conditions and a great white shark sighting, but the new “pool play” format that is set to kick off during the main event should be interesting to watch.
After three rounds of competition, the field of 32 riders will be reduced to 16, who then compete in man-on-man heats until the winner is announced. This new format, coupled with a heaving slab of a wave, should produce some exciting moments, especially during the first three rounds where all 32 competitors will surf.
Jeff Hubbard is currently leading the IBA World Tour after winning the first event of the 2011 season at Pipe. For more information about the event, and a link to the live webcast, visit the IBA World Tour website.
