The 2011 IBA Pipeline Pro needs one more day of competition to claim its champion, and by the looks of the latest Waimea Bay buoy forecast, tomorrow will be that day.
A new North-Northwest swell is currently on the rise and forecast to peak overnight. The surf is already larger than predicted, with the Waimea Bay buoy reporting swell observations of 6.6 feet at 13.3 seconds as of 10:12 a.m. HST. The Northwest Hawaii buoy is also currently on the rise, reporting in at 10.2 feet at 12.9 seconds as of 10:00 a.m. HST.
Energy from the NNW declines through Wednesday, turning more Northerly as the swell fades. Light Easterly winds should provide offshore conditions throughout the day. Check out the live webcast tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. HST, as the action begins with the first heat of round six.
